Questions to ask yourself when finding a good Wedding DJ.
Have you ever been to a wedding reception and the DJ couldn’t get the party started? Or have you experienced a shy or timid DJ that didn’t want to talk on the microphone to break the ice or to do a Grand Entrance? It may not seem like a big thing, but when it comes down to it, this could make or break your wedding reception. This is your big day, and you have friends and family coming from all over to celebrate this event with you. You really only have one chance to get this right. Hiring a professional really makes or breaks the event.
Being a wedding in Orlando, Florida, you have to wear many hats. You have to fix your gear when it breaks down. It’s crucial to be up on the latest software to make sure your system doesn’t crash. People expect you to be up on the latest entertainment trends because technology has made it so easy to access new ideas. On top of all that, when the DJ shows up at an event, you have to be aware that anything could happen within the performance time. Being able to pivot and think fast on your feet is not only a requirement; it’s a way of life. We prepare as much as we can in advance, but that doesn’t stop curves and obstacles from forming at any given moment.
The entertainment industry is fast-paced and, most times, unforgiving. You really only have one shot at getting it right. “Never let them see you sweat,” is my motto. To be successful in this business, your calibration skills have to be at a heightened sense, and being able to gauge the temperature in a room is a way of life. When it comes to having multiple personalities involved with an event, managing that becomes like second nature to the skilled DJ; on top of that, delivering a solid performance could make or break your career depending on who’s in the audience. You never know, so it’s best to be at your best at all times.
No matter what the client wants or how out of left-field it may be, we smile and say, “I’ve got you covered.” I couldn’t begin to tell you how many wedding receptions I’ve dj’d and had to think fast on my toes when an inebriated guest would throw a random request from left-field. I honestly never really worried about it either. When it comes to being professional in show business, we gauge the crowd, listen to the bride’s guidance, and take it from there. We are just prepared! We have so many tricks up our sleeves that we can deliver what the bride wants vertically at any time.
King Entertainment Events is dedicated to giving the newlyweds what they want for their wedding reception. Whether you are having a mingle meet and greet event or a full-blown dance party! We are there to deliver a performance like no other entertainment company can provide. Since we work so closely with Walt Disney World and their wedding Clients, we have crafted our skills like no other company on the planet.
It’s always great when we get the bride to say. “I never thought that my family would dance that much.” I smile because I know it’s job security and that there is most likely a newly engaged couple in the audience. You have to love it when you get referrals from the weddings you have already performed at.
King Entertainment Events, based out of Orlando, Florida, has come up with some icebreakers to really lighten the mood. We can honestly say that no other company in Orlando, Fl, can perform those types of icebreakers because of the number of shows we do at Walt Disney World.
So here are the top 5 points to look for when you are booking your wedding DJ.
- Do they have an outgoing personality? If someone is timid in the interview or over the phone, you can bet they won’t be outgoing on the microphone and be able to command an audience to have a good time and to take charge when the time is needed. On the flip side of that, it’s important to know when to take charge and step back. It’s all about gauging the audience and point of contact and finding out how they want the event to go.
- How many years of experience do they have? There are so many different things that can go on at any given event that some actions need to be on autopilot. It just becomes second nature to have a playlist running while talking to the newlyweds about introducing them for the grand entrance. The show doesn’t stop because someone important needs to talk to the DJ about their cue to be introduced into the room. This also goes with knowing what to be prepared for. As I said, so many things could happen, and an experienced professional would know what those things are.
- Do they have professional gear? There have been too many times that I have heard stories from DJs that failed just because they didn’t have professional gear. It’s plain and simple. If you want to get the professional show, then you have to have the professional gear to go with it. I know it’s more expensive, and that’s just the cost of doing business.
- Do they have backups? Anything could happen at any event. I have had speakers blow for no reason. I have plugged into bad power and fried equipment. It hurts when that happens, but the show must go on. The King Entertainment Events team is required to have backups of basically everything. If something breaks down for whatever reason, the show must go on. We go to the van and get the replacement as fast as possible and pick right back up where we left off.
- Are they punctual? That may sound a little off, but I have known many artist types that aren’t super organized or on the ball in my experience. It could come down to missing one cord, which could lead to the show not even being able to happen. It is super important that the DJ you hire is punctual and ready to deliver the show you want at the drop of a hat. Also, being set up before showtime is super important as well. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shown up to an event, and the wedding coordinator comes over and says guests are ready for doors to open 30mins or even an hour earlier than planned.
It’s your big day, and we are honored to be a part of it. Hopefully, this has helped you with planning for your entertainment. Give us a call today to see how we can best serve you!
